Flirtation

**I love the imagery used in this poem
——————————–
Flirtation
After all, there’s no need
to say anything
at first. An orange, peeled
and quartered, flares
like a tulip on a wedgewood plate
Anything can happen.
Outside the sun
has rolled up her rugs
and night strewn salt
across the sky. My heart
is humming a tune
I haven’t heard in years!
Quiet’s cool flesh—
let’s sniff and eat it.
There are ways
to make of the moment
a topiary
so the pleasure’s in
walking through.

Negotiations

February is such a hell month [not a love month] for me as the heartaches in my workplace continue. Lol. As I sulk in the midst of my mistakes and the endless workload, I seek refuge in the words of this author, Yann Martel from a downloaded e-book in my phone. His novel Self is so familiar, it gives me that jolt that maybe, I can write something of that genre too. I promise to write a full review about it in a couple of days. Anyways, it would be Monday again and before I let the jitters set in, I would like to share this poem that I found online. Something to remind me that February is love month, a time to read and share more love poems. Here’s for the last few remaining days of February!

Negotiations

    1

The best part
is when we’re tired
of it all
in the same degree,

a fatigue we imagine
to be temporary,
and we lie near each other,
toes touching.

What’s done is done,
we don’t say,
to begin our transaction,

each letting go of something
without really
bringing it to mind

until we’re lighter,
sicker,
older

and a current
runs between us
where our toes touch.

It feels unconditional.

Remember this, we don’t say:

The Little Mermaid
was able to absorb
her tail,

refashion it
to form legs.

This meant that
everything’s negotiable

and that everything is played out
in advance

in secret.

The songstress clarified that the rant is not all about the money but more of feeling disrespected. Given that Zanotti will grant her paycheck, the singer is planning to give the sum to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

In a separate Instagram post, the 34-year old singer urged the designer and his PR team to take action to her complaint and suggested that their respective reps may want to discuss about the matter, according to E! Online.

“So tired of ppl taking my kindness for weakness. Free @giuseppezanottidesign read your comments then hit up your accountant my n–. U not takin WHO call sir?????”

Zanotti collaborated with celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Zayn Malik, Beyonce, Rihanna and Kanye West among others. In one interview with Footwear News, the shoe mogul even shared that he likes collaborating with celebs from the music industry ‘a lot.’

Since Nicki Minaj took the matter to Twitter, the hashtag #GiuseppeWhatsGood became trending. However, the designer and his camp is yet to adress the matter. Nevertheless, the Bang Bang singer announced that the designer took down images of sneakers bearing her name in the company site, US Magazine said.

To Dorothy

***And now after the gut-wrenching confession from my previous blog post comes the time to relieve the mind of any tension and just relish the beauty of this piece. (love) (love) (love)

Marvin Bell, 1937

You are not beautiful, exactly.
You are beautiful, inexactly.
You let a weed grow by the mulberry
and a mulberry grow by the house.
So close, in the personal quiet
of a windy night, it brushes the wall
and sweeps away the day till we sleep.

A child said it, and it seemed true:
“Things that are lost are all equal.”
But it isn’t true. If I lost you,
the air wouldn’t move, nor the tree grow.
Someone would pull the weed, my flower.
The quiet wouldn’t be yours. If I lost you,
I’d have to ask the grass to let me sleep.

A Look Back At My Home based, Hermetic Self

It’s funny how, for a long time, I had been writing about other people’s lives, people who basically  don’t know that I exist and people of my kind made a living even from one crazy comment they make in public. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s possible divorce, Jay-Z’s rumored affair with Rihanna or Rita Ora or the latest iPhone updates to name a few–these are the stories that kept me and my family back in Leyte alive aside from the income I got as an online tutor. For two years, I fared well working homebased after I break away from my last teaching job in Ormoc.

The shift from a highly-sociable environment like that in a classroom or in a school community to the hermetic walls that an online worker had been drastic. The decision coincided with the aftermath of the havoc made by the Haiyan and a bad breakup that made me question my self esteem. Indeed, there is such thing as a ‘dark night of the soul’ and, I think, that it was a long dark night then that blinded my being and sucked away all the sunshine in my soul. I had just turned 30 that time–unmarried and not tied to a regular day job, something that others in village cringe like I am some great mistake. I can just imagine my grade school teachers being frustrated learning that their once-bright-kid in class spends time at home, possibly without a job as she isn’t wearing any uniform. What a total waste! But well, why would I wear a uniform when all I have to do is sit in front of the computer and work.

I let these thoughts sink in, I let the darkness sink in as I work day in and day out feeling trapped in my own self, thinking that the darkness would last infinitely. Interactions are limited but I tried to hold on to the last strands of friendships through chatting and planning meetups. Then again, in those times, I found out something about myself. That a part of me will always be a loner. And no matter how hard I tried to make friends, it seems like I will naturally lose them along the way. This truth, I find it hard to accept in the beginning but, fortunately, I have successfully embraced it with all heart and soul as time goes by.

Now that I am working in Indonesia, back to teaching again, I still feel  the itch to get back into the online writing trade. Like I want to concoct another sugar-coated Kim Kardashian story or how Meryl Streep and other celebrities bash Trump. I like the anonymity and the thrill of stripping off of that stereotypical teacher air and transform to somebody who totally lives a different life outside the walls of the classroom. I miss the feeling of receiving money from people whom you haven’t met, the thrill that they may or may not pay you the next month. It’s a strange but exciting feeling that maybe, I have to forgo as I embrace a new era in my teaching career.

And thus, this blog is created simply because I miss writing so much like I feel like I am not me anymore if I cannot write. But maybe this time, I will be writing again, focusing on my fiction, something that I meaning to do all these years. This time, no more anonymity. This time no more writing about people who don’t know I existed. Or if I may write about them one of these days, the act won’t be a necessity anymore. And, I am also brimming to tell stories about Indonesia and my new life here.

Bye for now Kim, so long Beyonce! And cheers to a brand new determination to write brand new stories and blog posts in the coming months!

Speak, Heart!

It’s about to be Valentine’s Day soon with me spending it in a new country. My Valentine’s were generally uneventful as most of them are school days and I have to be in the daily grind. Anyways, just wanna share these painfully sweet lines in time of this Feb-ibig. Those who know this blog before, yes, I am reviving it. I recently stopped from an online gig and I miss news writing so so much. So I want to continue that here. I also want to rekindle my old love for poetry. Hope you enjoy my page.

Speak, Heart!

By Ursula Krechel

So cold was the heart that it
was afraid for itself,
it drowned language, wanted to be
called callous,
snuggled against tiles
lived like happy maggots
under baskets of sour cherries
gnawing selflessly into the strangeness,
head first, tired, so palpitating, the heart
was speechless. What also happened
very quietly the face fell into two pieces.
Language lost its thread
scraping into the ground, without purpose.

Matthew McConaughey ready to ’embrace’ Trump

matthewMatthew McConaughey stole the limelight today when he announced that Americans might as well support Donald Trump’s presidency. This he said in the heights of Trump’s new law prohibiting all Muslims from entering the US.

In an interview with Andrew Marr, the actor put on a mellow attitude towards the newly-elected President saying that Americans should give him a chance in his plans. Being the elected president, Americans ‘got no choice now’ and accept the dynamic as well as divisive attitude of the public towards his inauguration.

“At the same time, it’s time for us to embrace and shake hands with this fact and be constructive with him over the next four years,” he said as cited by Yahoo Movies.

The actor further explained that even those who condemned Trump and his principles might think how to be constructive to his administration.

The Dallas Buyer Club actor is one of the few Hollywood celebs who did not turn against Trump unlike what Meryl Streep, Madonna and Amy Schumer who continuously slammed Trump in their social media sites.

America Ferrera, and Chelsea Handler are also one of the Hollywood celebs who participated in the Women’s March, according to EW.

Comedian Amy Schumer, on the other hand attacked Trump for saying that Chuck Schumer (the comedian’s cousin and a Democratic senator) had ‘faked tears’ for the Muslim Ban.

In a lengthy Instagram post, the comedian-actress pronounced that the Muslim ban is ‘unconstitutional and cruel.’ She then urged her followers to take action especially urging ‘sheltered friends’ to participate on a very important socio-political issue.

Meanwhile, Matthew McConaughey’s words got aired on Sunday morning in Britain. He is currently working on a new movie project, ‘Gold’ in which he played the part of a businessman who got lucky in discovering gold and other precious metals in the jungles of Indonesia.
